Chinese calligraphy is an art form that is artistically closely related to painting. In this workshop you learn about the historical and cultural foundations of calligraphy, and the various styles. As well as this, you also gain basic knowledge of the Chinese script and characters.

In the practical section you will practice the correct posture. From single strokes to simple characters, you will be introduced to calligraphy in such a way that you will have a good "finished product" at the end, which you can take home to hang on the wall or give as a gift.

Practising Calligraphy in Munich – Open Practice Workshop

These practice sessions are designed for anyone who would like not only to discover calligraphy, but also to cultivate a regular and sustainable practice. The focus is on continuity, concentration, and the development of one’s own writing practice.

Through repeated writing, we deepen our focus, mindfulness, perseverance, and creative confidence. The sessions provide a space to practice, refine techniques, and ask questions—without performance pressure, yet with attention to each participant’s individual journey.

Each cycle consists of four sessions.

This course segment focuses on the practice of Xiaokai (小楷), a refined and elegant style of Kaishu (Regular Script) that has been used for centuries in classical texts, correspondence, and literary works.

Practice texts will include selected passages from the Daodejing (道德经) and the Heart Sutra (心经). In this way, the study of calligraphy is combined with an encounter with classical texts that have inspired reflection and contemplation for generations.

Participants of all levels are welcome, regardless of prior experience. Personal ideas, projects, and questions can be incorporated into the practice sessions at any time.

Please note: Tickets for the after-work workshop cannot be cancelled or rescheduled. However, they may be transferred to another person; in this case, a short message to [email protected] is sufficient.
