Paul Gilroy is considered the most important contemporary scholar on race, culture and nationalism. In this class, you are invited to read and discuss some of Gilroy's most prominent ideas, such as the Black Atlantic, ethnic absolutism, civilisationism, conviviality, postcolonial melancholia and iconisation. In addition to the texts, we will consult video lectures and give space for discussions on how useful these ideas are today.
