VoLTE for Radio planning and optimization

Duration: 3 days

With the first rollout of LTE the operators were focusing on higher data rates for non-real-time applications. At that stage voice services were still offered via the 2G/3G circuit domain. This situation is not satisfying for operators since they have to operate parallel networks for real-time and non-real-time services adding substantial cost.

For some time insufficient standardization did not offer a protection of infrastructure investment when operators were planning to integrate voice services into LTE networks. This situation has changed since the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) seem to be the standard for the future. In between operators will also implement Circuit Switched Fallback (CSBF).

This training is designed for technical staff from Radio-planning and optimization who need to extend their knowledge regarding real-time services via LTE. Topics from the core network and the end-to-end view are included since they are essential to understand the consequences for the air interface. Nevertheless, the focus will be on the air interface.

Target group / Requirements

The target group is technical staff from Mobile Radio-planning and optimization. The participants get a comprehensive view of the challenges that come with the introduction of real-time services over LTE. This knowledge can be transferred to their work within the field of planning and optimization.
