Modern 2G networks have to compete with UMTS and need to offer a comparable high speed data transmission. EDGE, especially EGPRS, offer transmission rates up to 473.6 kbit/s using a combination of up to 8 GSM channels. How this technology achieves these high data rates, how it works and how it can be ranked between GPRS and UMTS will be explained in detail.
