Kantonale Mountainbike-Strategie
In December, following two years of work, the Zurich Cantonal Government approved the cantonal mountain biking strategy. The aim is to create an attractive, safe and needs-based offering. The strategy is based on shared use of paths: mountain biking is generally permitted on all paths marked on the Swisstopo map.
The Cycling Unit will explain what the 70-page strategy entails and what the next steps are at Cycle Week – and will be available afterwards to answer questions from anyone interested.
Mountain biking is growing in popularity in the Canton of Zurich. To reconcile the interests of mountain bikers, other forest users and environmental protection, an MTB concept has been developed in response to a postulate with broad political support. It lays the groundwork for planning and implementing an attractive range of facilities.
Across the cantons, 19 focus areas have been defined where demand is particularly high. The MTB provision is to be expanded in a targeted manner and managed in such a way that sensitive areas can be better protected. The focus is on the coexistence of all trail users, i.e. consideration and mutual respect, regardless of whether someone is travelling on foot, on horseback or by bike.
Presentation:
Livio Peterer (Office for Mobility) and Res Guggisberg (Office for Landscape and Nature) led the development of the MTB concept as project managers. We are delighted that Livio Peterer will be presenting the key updates to the audience at Cycle Week.
Discussion:
Following this, IG MTB ZH will moderate a discussion with questions from the audience, during which Steve Couchemann, head of the cantonal cycling department, will also take to the stage to provide insights into the process and the way forward.
For interested cyclists, there will be a Züritrails Social Ride. And after the discussion, the bar will remain open.
