Abstract:
Resource Therapy’s 15 treatment actions deal with many diagnoses effectively. They can be applied to working with Complex PTSD (CPTSD) Clinical presentations.
Clients with Complex PTSD experience many of the core symptoms of PTSD. There may also be disturbances in self-perception and many parts on deck showing up with intense feelings, thoughts and behaviours including:
- Difficulties expressing vulnerable emotions – Anger, feeling out of control
- And inability to experience a sense of safety and wellbeing internally and externally
- Extreme negativity toward themselves
- Overwhelming feelings of helplessness, guilt shame or powerlessness
- Distrust and avoidance of relationships
- Returning to the familiar in relationships – unwittingly selecting unhealthy partnerships abusive in nature
- Worthlessness, feeling .unlovable and a core state of emptiness
- Impatience and distrust in therapy – Parts wanting to be ‘fixed now.’
As we know from the research, trauma in early childhood development is prevalent. This distress impacts key areas of relationships, trust building and self-concept.
Resource Therapy can be utilized in a modified approach in how and when we apply our clinical Resource Therapy (RT) interventions for our CPTSD clientele. Knowing what RT skill and how and when to use it for maximum benefit is key.
With RT CPTSD recovery is possible as we create a new relationship with our parts, our past and the present.
