Transatlantic Migration in Irish Literature
In autumn we read and discuss classic and contemporary fiction of two Irish authors who both describe the struggle of young women leaving their home for a better life across the Atlantic - “Eveline”, a short story by James Joyce in “Dubliners” and “Brooklyn” by Colm Toibin.
Unfolding the Past
In winter we read two powerful, brilliant and small works of contemporary Irish literature written by Claire Keegan “Small things like these” and “Foster”
Kursinhalte
We compare and contrast the novels, analyse their main characters, the setting, the language and take a close look at the historical context. Furthermore, we discuss the changes in young women’s situations today.

You enjoy reading classic and modern fiction and exchanging your thoughts with others.
A degree of fluency and spontaneity is required to take an active part in discussions.
